Labor Department Addresses Opioid-Induced Unemployment in Florida

$1.5 million will increase health and counseling services to support employment in 21 counties.

The Department of Labor awarded $1.5 million to Florida’s Department of Commerce this month, granting the resources necessary to address unemployment due to opioid addiction and overdose. This funding will allow 21 counties in the state to hire health and counseling professionals and provide training services for individuals seeking to become reemployed after excessive opioid use, which can lead to loss of productivity, absenteeism, and rapid job turnover.

“The Employment and Training Administration is committed to ensuring Florida workers affected by the opioid crisis have access to assistance that will help their communities address the unique impacts of this complex public health crisis,” said Assistant Secretary for Employment and Training José Javier Rodríguez. “This Dislocated Worker Grant provides critical support to Florida by providing jobs to affected workers and training in the areas of addiction treatment, mental health, and pain management.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For discernment for Assistant Secretary Rodriguez as he oversees the Labor Department’s Office of Employment and Training.
  • For Acting Secretary Julie Su to seek God’s wisdom as she heads the Labor Department.
  • For recipients of the funding to put it to effective, efficient, and beneficial use.
  • For everyone who is addicted to seek and receive help and obtain sobriety.
